Rough Night

09 December 2007
The next day we moved the boats over to Hudson Cay because the wind was forecast to blow even harder. Hudson Cay, according to Harry, would provide better protection. It was a very deep anchorage of 35 feet, which means we had to let out about 170 feet of anchor chain, but it had a great bottom for holding of clay and sand. We spent the day snorkeling and fishing and just exploring the area. That night the wind started to blow. Just after dark it picked up to 25 knots and by 9:00 pm. it was blowing steadily above 30 knots, with gusts to 35 and 40 knots. It was raining and the wind was also swinging through about 90 degrees so the boat was really moving around on the anchor. It made for a mostly sleepless night spent watching the chartplotter to see if we were dragging. But our anchor held and by morning the wind had laid down to around 20 knots.
