So.. I've been told that the tradition of leaving a dollar bill in the ceiling of a tiki bar before heading out to sea started with the Navy sailors in Hawaii. Before they headed out, they'd leave a dollar at the bar to ensure they'd have a dollar to buy a drink when they returned, hence establishing some good luck for themselves that they'd make it back. In that great tradition, I made it a point to stop by my local tiki bar tonight, had a navy grog, and left a dollar pinned to the ceiling that says, "SF to Hawaii, Team Cetacea, Pac Cup 2016." That should bring me some good luck to sit under that same dollar bill in August and have another drink when I return!
