Arrived at Disney's Island
27 March 2015 | Gorda Cay
Helen
It was not a lengthy distance and we got to sail some of it as we inched our way over to Gorda Cay which is Disney's Castaway Cay. A cruise ship was already here and on their dock and we elected to anchor on the other side from the dock, on the northern side. It was less huge waves but still rocky. After a very late breakfast Mark and Robert were able to drop the dinghy and motor in hopes of checking dep We had a huge issue hauling anchor with the dinghy painter that was supposed to be a floater. It sunk under the right prop and stalled the engine. Mark took his handy bowie knife and freed the prop. Another line secured the dinghy. We hauled anchor and headed around the point from the beach. Security stopped them, using a jet ski. Apparently it was okay to be out there and they will check on us if we head near the beach. Mark told them that he would be heading to the beach to pick relatives tomorrow and was told that they will be stopped. The depths were okay. We motored around a rock island to the east side. We were not able to get very close to shore due to the shallow depths, but we lined ourselves with the tail of the Disney ship. However, it took four times before the anchor would hold as the sand was on top of coral and the anchor would not grab. Mark finally got in the water, yet again and was able to dive on the anchor and plant it securely and it is holding. The sun is shining and the wind is around 20 knots. We have a little bit of chop in this anchorage. It rained a bit while we were showering. Looking forward to a good night's sleep and our company's arrival tomorrow.
