We woke up around 6 and decided to head straight to Georgetown in the Exuma islands of the Bahamas. It is a huge cruiser town with many businesses catering to the needs of the boater. We enjoyed our time here in 1995 and 1996. There is a barrier island called, Stocking, which protects the town with a mile of very shallow waters. Our destination will be Hamburger Bay anchorage. This will be a long day on the waters. Lots of current as we motored out of the channel. The moon was still up and the sun was starting to rise, on the sleepy town of Staniel Cay. We reefed the main and flew the full jib. The winds were around 11-14 knots. However the seas are large at times. Now, we have increased the winds to up to 16 and we are sailing very close to the wind. At times our speeds have declined but now they are steady in the 5 knot range. It's splashy so we do not have many hatches open, but out in the cockpit under the awning, it is cold. Even Mark is weather his foul weather jacket. We have been snacking as it is too rouigh to cook anything. Thankfully, I added a bunch of different gluten free bars, which are quite tasty. Last night after dinner, we played a short game of dominoes and Mark and I were the winners. We actually stayed up late which was good as the rich boats put on a spectacular fireworks display off the beach. How wonderful!! Looking forward to getting off the rough seas and spending some time in Georgetown.
