Biscayne Bay at Last

Happy Veterans day to all. Happy Birthday to Donna and Erin. We hauled anchor before 7 and worked our way thru two bridges and then past the docks filled with many cruise ships. They were playing the National Anthem at 8 am at the Ft. Lauderdale Coast Guard Station, as we motored by. The waves were sizeable going out the channel and as we turned south we unfurled the jib only. We sailed the entire way on the ocean to the Miami Government Cut with the auto pilot steering and taking to the GPS - success! The sun was shining with no rain, despite some dark clouds hiding it at times. We wore our jackets with the 20 knot winds filling our sail. A mix of waves up to 6 feet made it a little lumpy but Charabia handled it well. Our speeds ranged from 5 - 6 and we saw 7 knots going into the Miami channel. We motored thru the harbor and under the Rickenbacker Bridge at the far end. We could see many cruise ships at the downtown dock. We anchored just off the beach with one other sailboat already there. Then the world showed up. Some incredibly expensive boats anchored and displayed all their toys, including loud music. Thankfully, at sunset, they all left except for the one sailboat. We spent some time scrubbing the bottom of Charabia. It was cold getting into the water and the jet skis and boats motoring waked us, so we didn't stay in the water long. We replaced the port hall way ceiling liner as Mark's fix solved the problem. Working on tomorrow's plan.
