Sailing on the Bay
13 November 2017 | Biscayne Bay
Helen/Mark
It was a very stormy night with howling winds and a huge amount of rainfall on Biscayne Bay. It was much like a tropical storm. Hauled anchor and ran both engines to recharge our battery, while additionally flying our jib. We ate both breakfast and lunch underway. It was overcast and sprinkled some as we headed out. The winds remained from the north-east with gusts up to 17 knots. We were sailing over 7 knots once we turned the corner with full main and jib sailing. The water was quite shallow in places, but we didn't have any issues. Anchored off Key Largo where several huge houses located. Mark worked on trying to figure out the oil leak and talked to a diesel mechanics company in Marathon Key and is still waiting for their reply. He also researched and ordered a replacement for our holding tank gauge. The leak on the port stairway reappeared this morning and another attempt to correct it with re-bedding the fair lead and rope clutch was done after we anchored. I did some laundry and hung the clothes out on our life lines to dry. Had a tasty hot dinner and started watching some more episodes of the first season of 24 that we have on dvd. If the weather is nice tomorrow, we will stop off at Pennekamp and snorkel. We remember scuba diving there years ago with our power boat. We will be taking the Hawk Channel which is on the east side of the Keys but inside the reef.
