Marathon Day

16 November 2017 | Marathon Marina
Helen/Mark
Our salon clock malfunctioned telling us it was an hour later. As we hauled in the anchor, I was wondering why it was so dark. Then as we motored out the channel, we noticed that the gps clock was on the correct time and Mark reset the clock. Had to move breakfast inside after the 20 knots of wind blew my cheerios off my spoon before I could get it my mouth. It was a cool breeze and made it another day of shoes & socks but still wearing shorts. We set the jib only and reached speeds up to 7 knots with winds of 20+ from behind. The only problem was avoiding the many crab pots along our route. We had to drop the sail coming in the channel as the wind was directly in front of us. We motored in and were assigned a spot on the new gas dock, which is not yet working. We found lots of damage from Irma. The side of the road was full of debris. The mechanic arrived and agreed with Mark that the engine needed a new rear crank shaft seal. The company picked us up and took us to their office to fill out paperwork and give them our credit card. Then dropped us at Publix. We got a lot of groceries and took a $5 cab back. We finally marked the anchor chain so Mark will know how much he's putting out when we anchor. Washed the salt off the boat. After changing into our swim suits, we walked up to the pool. The water was warm and we had it to ourselves. Then showered and headed back to the boat for a beautiful sunset and dinner. We will be staying here another day to get the seal replace which will start at 8:00 am tomorrow.

About:
We are both computer folks that were live aboard cruisers back in the 90s. We settled in Jacksonville Florida after escaping the great white north and cruising the Bahamas, T&C, DR and points south down to Trinidad. [...]
Extra: Charabia is a French slang word for nonsense or gibberish. It derives from Arabic "sharab" which means alcohol. When you drink (too much) alcohol, you start talking Charabia. The original owners named her and Mark liked the name so it stuck.
