Fast Sail
30 November 2017 | Nearing Grand Cayman
Helen
We were able to get more sleep time last night as Mark set up the radar with a 6-mile perimeter. There were not that many ships around the entire night. It did give a warning for a light in the distance which we thought was an air plane, but not sure what it was. Took turns at the helm. The winds grew stronger so the jib was reefed to half size. We were still making over 7 knots speed. The moon lighted our way so at least we could see the big waves that hit us from the port to starboard side. Lots of spray at times. The boat was covered in salt water. The winds stabilized from 15-18 thru the day. Thankfully, the big seas subsided. A pod of much smaller dolphins swam in our bow waves. We took some pictures and videos of our encounter. Spoke to someone on the Royal Caribbean Oasis of the Seas ship who gave us their updated weather forecast. The forecast was quite different from ours. We kept our high speeds sailing all day, very close to the wind. We should arrive in Grand Cayman early tomorrow morning. It was a bumpy day on the boat as the motion of going up and down waves made sure that we hold on before taking a step. It made for a difficult shower. There is only water for miles and miles in all directions. We were glad for the sun today to charge our batteries. It was storming off to our port side, but by the time we got there, there was no rain for us, only a rainbow. Looking forward to being back on land, at least for the check-in process.
