St Regis

17 February 2018 | La Cruz Marina
Helen
We set an alarm clock for the first time and it didn't go off. Thankfully, we had enough time to get ready and leave on time for the St. Regis Resort. We walked into the La Cruz and caught a cab for 300 pesos. Our quote from yesterday was 400. The driver got a good tip when we arrived. The place is so beautiful, it took our breath away. Between the many pools, fountains, beach and lounge chairs, it was a sight to behold. We enjoyed a late breakfast buffet with Mike & Lara. Then got into our swim suits and hit the beach. The sand was soft and hot. We walked out into the ocean and the water was surprisingly cold. We got set up on two lounge chairs and just enjoyed the surroundings. When we got hot we walked over to one of the pools. We headed home around 5:30. Arranged a cab at their lobby and we were given a Mercedes van. We asked how much to take us back to the marina and he said their rate was 2000+ pesos. We said OMG! He said he could take us to Punta Mita which was the nearby tiny town and we could get a cab or bus from there. The taxi driver said it was $500 so we said no as our other option was to take a bus. We elected for the bus roller coaster ride for 50 pesos. There were not many onboard so we sat in the front seat. The driver made several stops including one where we were going very fast and he slammed on the breaks, in the middle of no where, and picked up a lot of people. I was wondering where they would have come from. We made it safely to our stop in La Cruz and walked back to the marina. Yesterday, we left two bags of laundry for the service that cleans clothes and we found them nicely wrapped on our boat with for a cost of only 175 pesos. Had dinner and headed up to the cruisers' lounge to update the blog. We totally enjoyed our day. Many thanks to Mike and Lara who will come over tomorrow afternoon. We are planning to take them for a sail on Charabia!

We are both computer folks that were live aboard cruisers back in the 90s. We settled in Jacksonville Florida after escaping the great white north and cruising the Bahamas, T&C, DR and points south down to Trinidad. [...]
