Lost Our Wind!
10 March 2018 | Pacific Ocean on route to Hawaii
Helen/Mark
Stayed up late to listen to Mark's check in with the Seafarer's HAM Net. Of course this threw off our night shift timing. My 1st sleep did not start until 11 EST, which is at least two hours later than our normal pattern. Motored some thru the night as the wind died. By 3 am we had some wind. Sailed with jib thru the night with speeds 4-5-6 knots. Lost the wind completely around 4 pm. We are only making 1 knot speed or less. We have 1213 nautical miles to go as I write this blog entry. There was a little bit of rain this morning and some after lunch. The sun was partially out mid afternoon so we took advantage of a warmer period to take a shower off the port steps but overall a very grey day. Mark siphoned another jerry jug, so our tank is just over half full. We are trying not to use much fuel so motoring was not an option today. Watched some more Dead Zone with popcorn this afternoon. Not sure where the wind is, but the weather predictions are saying by Monday or Tuesday. Hello, this is Saturday. Are we going to have to wait for two more days to get some wind? Spent the waking part of our day doing chores around the boat. If it had been a hot day, I would have jumped into the ocean, just for something to do. The ocean water feels cold and without some huge heat, it wouldn't do us much good. It feels like we are bobbing around but we are actually on track and moving slightly, around 1 knot. Mark got his tin whistle out and was practicing this afternoon. He is also working on Arduino, which is a computer on a chip that you can program. So far, he made a light blink. I just finished reading another book on my tablet. Okay to the Wind Gods, we really could use a little more wind.
