Boat Work - Part 3!

Up early. No cruise ships in port today. There were two barges getting unloaded. I made us French toast for breakfast. Then Mark started in with the sail drive oil change. Only one needed it. The big job today was clearing everything out of the cockpit locker. That included all the partitions that Mark built to keep everything separated. I was the helper. Mark said he worked like a dog, yet again. It was a sunny hot day. So, that didn't help as Mark was sweating. Then the issue was unfreezing the bolt that held the pulleys for the steering cable system. He added penetrating oil which eventually released the pulleys. It was lubricated and eventually freed. Yeah!! The steering wheel moves smoothly in both directions. Then everything had to be put back together in the locker. Once that was done, Mark took a rest. After lunch he went for a dinghy ride to Radio Bay and downtown Hilo which has a small amount of boats in their only marina. I worked on a phone hypnosis session. Then we both headed to shore in the dinghy, losing my grocery list in the water. We walked over to the bus stop and waited almost 1/2 hour for the bus to arrive. It seemed like a much longer ride today. There were only two or three others on the bus. Mark headed to Walmart and bought me a tablet replacement for mine which is not really working. I went to Safeway and picked up a few things. Our plan is to begin our sail to Maui, tomorrow morning, after we get the dinghy motor off and hoist the dinghy. It will take us a whole day to get there. We should be able to sail the channel overnight when the winds are not so strong. Today was sunny but clouded over and we thought it would be raining when we headed to shore. The rain held off. I find the air temperature cold and I even put on a sweater. It's 80 degrees in the salon. Mark cut up his arms and some fingers on today's project. His whole body aches. We won't have any phone coverage until we get close to Maui. We will be checking our satellite in-between. Will let you know the conditions in tomorrow's blog. Enjoy the upcoming holiday weekend!
