Exploring Tahiti

We watched the movie, Conspiracy Theory. It was entertaining and we have seen it before. Got to bed by 10 pm. Then up early. Had breakfast and walked over to Avis, which was under a mile from the marina. Got our rental car and stopped at three different marine stores. Picked up a few things including a new fender. Took our purchases back to the boat. Traffic in town was heavy every where we went, Mark said he never got out of second gear driving around the city this morning. Then headed out of town and around the larger half of the island of Tahiti. It was overcast and at times looked like it would rain. We stopped along the way to take pictures. We had lunch at the Venus Point Park which is the location where Captain Cook traveled to view the transit of Venus back in the 1700's. There was also a 7 story lighthouse built in 1867. Then we stopped at a park to view the Arahoho blow hole. It was an amazing place and I am so glad we got to spend some time there. There was a vent back from the edge that you could stand next to and it would roar when a big wave hit. Close by to this location was the Faarumi water falls. None of these places charged admission and each one was worth seeing. The heavens opened up and we drove thru some light rain as we circumnavigated this side of Tahiti. With the sun behind clouds for most of our trip, we didn't get to see the nice clear blue waters. All the beaches we stopped at were black sand beaches. We saw many locations with surfers in the water. The waves were incredibly huge at Taharuu. I would love to go back there and jump in the water. We planned to stop at the other big marina, close to Papeete but instead we stopped Carrefour. It's a huge grocery store in a shopping mall. Mark got his hair cut while I started shopping. There was so much to see and decide for provisioning the next leg of this trip. We got back to boat around 8 pm. Heading to the marina office to get wifi and post this. We are asking for less rain and cloud for tomorrow's tour.
