Exploring Tahiti in the Rain! Tuesday, July 3, 2018

03 July 2018 | Tahiti
Helen
It was a late dinner and we were exhausted. Somehow we made it up to 10 pm. I was reading a fast moving book, so the time went by. Up early this morning. After breakfast, we headed to the marina office for their wifi, to do more research on the touristy places on the smaller side of Tahiti. We left before 9. The sun was shining. Some of it was a retrace of yesterday's travels. We stopped at the other marina and met our Agent. Also, got some questions answered with regards to taking advantage of their duty free fuel. We can wait until we get to Bora Bora to refuel. Made several stops along the way, mainly black sand beaches. The road only goes so far around on the north and the south of that part of Tahiti. We saw surfer beaches, some with a tan colored sand. We got rained on for most of our stops. We finished the North side as far as we could go. Found a small grocery store and got an ice cream. Then we headed back but there weren't too many restaurants. We drove up a very steep incline to a Lodge, with beautiful views and thatched roofed bungalows, but no lunch was served. Then we stopped at an expensive seafood restaurant and decided to find something else as we are not wanting to pay such huge amounts for lunch. That worked out. We stopped at a different Carrefour grocery store, looking for a few particular things. We did not find everything. The one most amazing place was the Grotto. What a beautiful place. We got to walk around and see several caves and tiny waterfalls at the bottom of a tall mountain. Lots of trees and tropical plants. That was the highlight of today. It was raining at the spots where we would have snorkeled. The many surfers were out in force. Made one more stop before heading back to the marina. We were unloading our purchases when a couple came by to say they just got here and have the same boat as ours. So, we are getting together with them after dinner. It feels like we have been going non-stop. We will be returning our car in the morning. Our boat is fully stocked for another 6 months on the water. Our week will be up on Thursday. We will be heading next to the island of Moorea.
