Happy 4th of July!

Happy July 4th everyone! We were up early. Took the rental car deeper into Papeete, which meant going up hilly streets. Some nice houses but most had a solid cement wall and gate. It reminded me of Puerto Rico. Our rental car only has the initials, BYD, on it. We went past a BYD car dealer and it stands for Build Your Dreams. We have never heard of that brand before. We dropped off the car at Avis. Then walked around some of the shops that were already open. Mark found a few things at one store. We walked over to the Market. Mark found a Polynesian Ukarere. Not sure what he plans to do with it onboard...maybe I will get serenaded. Walked back to the boat and stopped by the marina office to see if our mail arrived. And, yes, it got here very fast. Mark went thru all the pieces of mail. Washed the boat as we still have water credits and our fellow Athena cruisers are stopping by to see our boat. It looks very much like theirs!! Our boat had a layer of black on it...pollution from the mega number of cars going by or something else. Met Rick and Lorraine (cruisers from Ontario) for a lovely long lunch. Walked over to a local restaurant, pretty much across the street. We talked a lot about both of our travels to this point. Walked back to the boat. Got our wifi going and made a couple of calls. It was not a great spot and too noisy for anyone to hear us. We forgot to take our earbuds. Will try again in the morning. We have to vacate our slip by 2 pm tomorrow. We are planning to take a day and sail over to Venus Point where we saw the lighthouse and Cook Memorabilia. Then on to Moorea on Friday. Not sure how long we will stay there. The sun is still hot. It was out all day. We had rain for the two days when we toured. Now, it's sunny and hot. We would like that to last thru tomorrow, so we can do some snorkeling.
