Resting & Partying! Sunday, Aug. 12, 2018
13 August 2018 | Pago Pago, American Samoa
Helen & Mark
It rained overnight. We got to sleep in, so we both got lots of rest. Mark checked and the wind was blowing over 20 knots. One boat dragged and had to re-anchor thru the day. After breakfast, we headed to the dinghy dock behind McDonalds and headed there as it's one of the Blue Sky hotspots. We had the place to ourselves. CNN in the morning switched over to some NFL games, on the big tv in their dining room. We stayed thru lunch. I got caught up on emails and FB. Mark added pictures to the past number of blog entries where we didn't have internet. He also did some of our online banking. Made a few phone calls. Ran into someone that we met in Suwarrow. We checked out a Laundromat which is right across the street and up the hill from McD's. We planned on doing some laundry today. However, on the way to the boat we stopped by Pied-Au-Mer and asked about the pot luck. We got invited to join them at 6 pm. We put laundry off for another day. Headed back to the boat. Mark had a nap. He also worked on measuring the mast to see if it's straight up and down. It's not. The new rigging has stretched some and needs to be re-centered. It was pretty much a resting day. Mark made two pots of popcorn and I put together a rice side dish to take to the pot luck. Also, took our drinks with us. Met a lot of cruisers. Some have been in American Samoa for quite a long time. It started raining just as we headed to the pot luck. I wore my jacket as it had a hood to keep me dry. Mark took his Tilley Hat. We had a lovely time. Our hosts were so gracious. Lots of great food and conversation. What are the odds that we would meet someone else named Mark from Jacksonville, Florida. Mark also worked at J&J which was my last IT contract. Jennifer worked at Florida Blue, which is where I worked for many years. We had so many laughs and shared stories. What fun! It rained quite a bit while we were partying. Mark had to bail out the dinghy before we headed back to Charabia. We're hoping we have enough time left to post tonight. Mark will add a picture tomorrow. Thanks for all the emails and satellite messages received today. Our plan is to be here for the next week or so. We are thoroughly enjoying our time on this island. So many welcoming and friendly people everywhere.
