Under Way to Tonga! Monday, September 3, 2018
04 September 2018 | Pago Pago, American Samoa
Helen & Mark
Woke up at 6. Mark dinghied over to Abundance and secured the Shower key on their lifeline as we forgot to return it to Peid-A-Mer last night. It had rained off and on including this morning. Had breakfast and helped hoist the dinghy motor to it's home on the stern rail. Mark hoisted the dinghy into the davits. Got ready and started both engines. Then Mark hauled the anchor while I drove Charabia. It came up easily. Mark made me request permission to exit the harbor from the Pago Pago Harbor Master. Was not expecting anyone to answer. We did get an answer and permission was granted. We were on our way out the big harbor by 7:15. It was nice that several boats were up and waving good-bye! The swells were large as we exited the channel into the Pacific Ocean. A double rainbow greeted us as we got to the coast. Some boobies and big swells welcomed us back to the high seas. We got rained on a few times and had a short squalls with higher winds to 30 knots. We took turns resting on the salon settee. It was a very bouncy ride all day. My stomach was not feeling well. The rest helped me. Finally added some ginger to my hot dinner, which helped. We tried watching the next Game of Thrones, but I felt like I was going to be sick so we stopped watching. Everything I tried to do made my stomach hurt. Heading to bed early for my first sleep shift. Our speeds were up to 9 knots depending on the wind situation but averaging around 6 knots. We have 260 nautical miles to go to the entrance to the channel to Neiafu in Tonga. Now as the sun is beginning to set, the waves are a bit smaller. Winds have eased off to under 15 knots. Thanks for all the satellite messages, which is the only way to communicate with us while we are underway. Hope you enjoyed today's Labor Day holiday!
