Sharing Good Times with Good Friends in Neiafu! Wednesday, Sept. 19, 2018

19 September 2018 | Neiafu, Tonga
Helen
Watched the movie, Deja Vu. I remembered watching it years ago, and yes, it was a great movie. Headed to bed by 10:30. Up early today. Had breakfast listening to the Cruisers' Net. Then got in the dinghy and headed to Mangos dinghy dock to check on our canvas repairs. Yet again, Philip was out on a dive boat. No work was done on it, so we told them we would return around 2:30 pm. Stopped at several of the Chinese stores and ought some eggs at $8 for 2 dozen, which I thought was expensive. Also, picked up some cheese, bread and cookies. Went by market and bought a water melon. Headed back to the dinghy and back to the boat. Had lunch onboard. Then headed back to check on our canvas repair, but again, Philip was no where to be found. So, we took our canvas back. I will have to make some repairs before we leave Tonga. Walked up the hill to the Coffee & Tees store and picked up our t-shirts. I have posted pictures on Facebook. Visited with Scott from Muskoka. Then stopped at Mangos for a drink and joined Hank & Lisa from Harlequin. Invited them for happy hour. It was trying to rain but we were dry sitting out in the cockpit. Enjoyed some great snacks and drinks. Then Lisa played songs on Mark's ukulele. She also played her guitar and has a fabulous voice. We sang songs and had a fun time. Mark turned on the underwater lights. We could see plenty of smaller fish with a few big ones that was trying to catch his dinner. We plan to check out of Tonga, tomorrow. Then we will head to an anchorage close to the entrance channel. Most likely, we will depart on Friday. It will take us 8-9 days to sail to New Caledonia. Please send us a message via our satellite, while we are on the high seas. Would love to hear from you on this long passage. Thanks for the emails and messages received today!

Vessel Name: Charabia
Vessel Make/Model: Fountaine Pajot / Athena
Hailing Port: Jacksonville, FL
Crew: Mark &Helen
About:
We are both computer folks that were live aboard cruisers back in the 90s. We settled in Jacksonville Florida after escaping the great white north and cruising the Bahamas, T&C, DR and points south down to Trinidad. [...]
Extra: Charabia is a French slang word for nonsense or gibberish. It derives from Arabic "sharab" which means alcohol. When you drink (too much) alcohol, you start talking Charabia. The original owners named her and Mark liked the name so it stuck.
