Go West/Down Under Rally Rendezvous! Monday, October 15, 2018

15 October 2018 | Port Moselle Marina, Noumea, New Caledonia
Helen/Mark
Watched a few episodes of Homeland last night. It was after 10 pm before we knew it. The stiff breeze had relaxed some by the time we got to bed. Up by 7. Had breakfast and took a walk up to the marina. Our wifi coverage is still flaky. Today is the only day that the market was closed. We decided to get some exercise and take a walk. Every street goes up a hill. We were trying to find a spot up on top that overlooked our marina. We did not find one. It was a good walk up and down the hills. Stopped at the Time Out Café for Mark to get a café latte. We stopped at one of the local grocery stores to buy some eggs. One was dates 10/9 and others were 10/10. Not sure if that is the date it was packaged or the expiration date. Will wait till tomorrow to buy them at the bigger grocery store. For some reason we were able to use WhatsApp using the restaurants' wifi. Then headed to the showers. Was able to join Mark in the larger shower in the men side. Then came back to the boat. It was sprinkling for most of the day. The sun would peek out in-between drips. It was a much colder day. I wore my jacket to keep me warm and out of the rain. Headed up to the Marina Restaurant for our Go West/Down Under Rally. There were around 50-60 people attending. We had to stand for the lengthy presentation. Then they offered a beer keg and wines afterwards. Mark indulged in the beer and finished off my red wine. We only knew a couple of boats. Met some other boaters. Our hosts did a great job. The sun had set by the time we walked back to Charabia. Not much color in the sky. Ready for some dinner. We plan to leave our slip by noon, tomorrow. Still have not decided which bay or island to visit. We have ordered our mail and it should be here on Friday, so we will return to Noumea. Thanks for your emails and messages.

Vessel Name: Charabia
Vessel Make/Model: Fountaine Pajot / Athena
Hailing Port: Jacksonville, FL
Crew: Mark &Helen
About:
We are both computer folks that were live aboard cruisers back in the 90s. We settled in Jacksonville Florida after escaping the great white north and cruising the Bahamas, T&C, DR and points south down to Trinidad. [...]
Extra: Charabia is a French slang word for nonsense or gibberish. It derives from Arabic "sharab" which means alcohol. When you drink (too much) alcohol, you start talking Charabia. The original owners named her and Mark liked the name so it stuck.
