20 November 2018 | On route to Brisbane
Helen/Mark
Watched a couple more episodes of Viking. Then retired around 10 pm. It was so very nice and calm in Garry's Anchorage. Peaceful and quiet, with so many boats there. Up early. Had breakfast as Mark planned out our route. Hauled anchor around 9 and was able to motor/sail for a little while. It was only 12 miles to Pelican Bay, which was a nice protected anchorage just before the channel out to the ocean. We got there by 11 and anchored along with seven other sailboats. Mark got the way points from the coast guard to get over the bar. He plotted our course all the way to Brisbane. Mark also called the marina to get a slip. The bio security guy gave us a call to arrange an appointment. We will call them back when we get to Brisbane. After lunch, I took a nap. Mark only had a short rest. The view to shore was incredible. Lots of white sand. We anchored in 8 feet of water, but the tide was still going down and ended up dropping to 7 feet. We could see a car ferry traveling between the mainland and Fraser Island or one of the outer islands. We could see 4wd vehicles driving on the beach. Decided to haul anchor at 4 pm. Two other boats had already left. We hoisted the main as we motored into the wind up the channel. A very slow process. A number of boats passed us in the channel as they all motor faster than us. Add the jib sail as we made the turn after the end of the breaking wavers. It was still pretty rough. We were able to sail with speeds over 7 knots. We actually caught up to a couple of boats. We had to go off our rhumb line as the wind was directly behind us. Mark dropped the main sail and got a short nap after dinner. I headed to bed around 8 pm. It was difficult to fall asleep. Not sure what was keeping me awake as I was certainly tired. We both were wearing sweaters as the breeze was cold after the sun set. Lovely orange colors in the sky as we headed 120 miles to Brisbane. Should arrive after noon. As Mark woke me at 11 pm, we realized that the blog didn't get downloaded. Will add a picture tomorrow. Mark will be on his way to sleep. Thanks for your emails and messages.

About:
We are both computer folks that were live aboard cruisers back in the 90s. We settled in Jacksonville Florida after escaping the great white north and cruising the Bahamas, T&C, DR and points south down to Trinidad. [...]
Extra: Charabia is a French slang word for nonsense or gibberish. It derives from Arabic "sharab" which means alcohol. When you drink (too much) alcohol, you start talking Charabia. The original owners named her and Mark liked the name so it stuck.
