Boat Broker & Visit with Florence

After dinner, we watched the movie, The Man of the Year. Neither of us had seen that movie before. It was entertaining. It rained quite a bit while we watched that movie. The winds picked up to a high of 30 knots. It was much stronger than predicted. We each did some reading and then headed to bed around 10 pm. Slept okay, but I woke up before 7 and was not able to fall back asleep. It was still overcast. I could see some lighter patches at the bottom of the horizon when I got up early. Did some more reading on my current book, A Painted House. Maybe we will see some clearing today. The Salon temperature was 74 at 7 am. Mark got up around 8. He put together his cereal with a banana. I cooked some veggies for my breakfast today. Then started a cabin cleanup, putting things away and cleaning the boat for Don's visit. Don, also works at Multihull Solutions. Mark picked him up at the dock across the channel. Mark took him for a boat tour. He also owns a catamaran. He suggested that taking everything out of view for the pictures and boat showings would be helpful. He also said that we would have to get our propane system certified as it's not something that is common in Australia. It was still overcast but no rain through lunch time. Mark dropped Don back at the marina. We put together a box of boat things to send back to Jacksonville. Then we dinghied to shore and it was just about this time that the heavens opened with a light rain. Our box was nicely protected with a garbage bag. Mark was carrying it up the hill when I asked why didn't we bring our cart. I guess I mentioned it too late. Our box weighed just over 8 kilos. We selected the cheapest method so it will take up to 3 months to get there. It cost almost $100 Aussie dollars. We bought another box so we will select a few more things to send back. Then we went back to Beco's Cafe for lunch. Both of our lunches were very tasty. We noticed a lady walking by wearing an Auto business t-shirt. Mark asked her if they rented cars and she said yes. So, we said we would pay them a visit. Mark asked if I wanted to visit the slots across the street at The Newport. I was ready to try my luck. We both played for a while. I got a few dollars payout right away. I worked it back to where I started. So, I didn't lose any money. Mark gave them $10. We then walked over to the car business to see what the car rental price would be. It would be convenient to rent their car for a week while we are getting the boat cleaned out. Walked back to the dinghy and headed back to the boat. I started going thru the storage boxes on the port side. I emptied everything and bagged up some of the things that we would not be using. We noticed that a catamaran anchored close to the beach and was sitting at a strange angle with the low tide. As I looked over, I noticed the sailboat, Florence, coming up the channel close to our boat. Matt and Amy tried anchoring close by but decided there was not enough room with all the boats on mooring balls. They ended up anchoring a little further up the chanel. We invited them to come by for happy hour tonight. We had packed up a few bags of boat items that we were planning to move off the boat. We found a happy home for them on Florence. Mark worked on some fiberglass repairs on both sets of aft steps. Just hoping that the rain did not mess up his work. Need the rain to clear out so we can paint over the repairs. We had a lovely visit and catch up with Matt & Amy. We had all been paying attention to Cyclone Oma, wondering where it would end up by the weekend. Australia is in its path. Lots of memories were shared. We also noticed several of the dragon boats paddling around the anchorage this evening. It was a cool evening on the water but several of the paddlers were only wearing a speedo. It started to rain so we moved into the salon. Enjoyed our time together. It was raining lightly as they dinghied back to their boat. Not sure how much more rain is coming our way. It's much cooler. The salon temperature is currently 75 degrees but it sure feels colder to me. Thanks so much for the emails and messages received. Catching up on the news. Our sunset was overshadowed with a thick cloud level and rain. However, as I create this blog, I can see a piece of the full moon rising thru a patch of thin clouds. Not much is visible. There must be less clouds higher up in the sky as I can actually see a bit more of the moon. The moonlight is actually a light shade of yellow!
