Another day in Manly

29 March 2019 | Manly
Helen
Watched the movie, Jack Ryan. Then watched another Dr. Who and started watched a Homeland episode. Didn't get to sleep until 11 pm. Slept later today. It was almost 8 before we got up. Had breakfast and caught up on internet things like resetting some passwords. Decided to skip the gym this morning. The time just went by too fast. Ran a load of laundry and hung them out on our patio to dry.
We headed to the post office in Manly, which is just across the street from a parking garage that gives us 3 hours of free parking. Today, they were doing maintenance and the garage was free all day. We stood in a long line at the post office. Then walked around looking for a lunch cafe. We finally selected one called, Manly Lane. Mark had a ham & cheese panini and I had a bowl with veggies and quinoa. Both were tasty. We have confirmation from Don, our broker, that Monday will be our survey day. We have an 8:30 appointment for haul out. It should only take a couple of hours. We walked out to the ocean. Today, it was a strange looking sky. Some of it looked darker like it was going to rain. However, the winds were strong and the water was nice and green. Lots of surfers in the big surf. We saw many people on the beach. I guess it was Friday and people were off work. Or, maybe it was because our day time high was 28 C today. Had a lovely walk on the beach. I could not believe that I was cold with the ocean breeze. However, I had goose bumps on my arms. We stopped by Starbucks and Mark got a coffee. I was trying to find some black thread but none of the shops in Manly carried any. So, we retrieved our car and headed to the shopping mall. I could still smell smoke from yesterday's fire. It was later in the day and a lot more cars in the parking garage. We lucked out in getting a spot as someone left. Walked around the mall. Found the thread at Big W store. Then decided to pick up another suitcase for our cruise at Target. As we drove out of the shopping mall, we saw the street was still roped off from pedestrians and cars. We could see that the firemen were still pouring water on the building that was on fire yesterday. We could still smell smoke. Not sure what that building was or why it was possibly on fire after a whole day. Headed home by 5 pm. Watched some more tv episodes of Dr. Who and Homeland. We needed to go online to fill out a form for a visa for our cruise stop in Sri Lanka. Mark has filled it out three times and each time it disappears and he has to start over. Oh my! The form has to be filed and printed out before we get there. It has really cooled down. We have the sliding door open and I am feeling cold. Mark enjoyed an sg&t. We enjoyed some taco chips and hummus. Thanks for the many emails and messages we received. We appreciate all your news and updates. Mark booked us a hotel in Newport, which is further north of Manly and nearer the boat. We plan to stay there for a couple of days beginning on Sunday.

Vessel Name: Charabia
Vessel Make/Model: Fountaine Pajot / Athena
Hailing Port: Jacksonville, FL
Crew: Mark &Helen
About:
We are both computer folks that were live aboard cruisers back in the 90s. We settled in Jacksonville Florida after escaping the great white north and cruising the Bahamas, T&C, DR and points south down to Trinidad. [...]
Extra: Charabia is a French slang word for nonsense or gibberish. It derives from Arabic "sharab" which means alcohol. When you drink (too much) alcohol, you start talking Charabia. The original owners named her and Mark liked the name so it stuck.
