Blue Mountains Touring with Gills

15 April 2019 | Sydney NSW, Australia
Enjoyed our walk over to Darling Harbor last evening, stopping for dinner at the Tokyo Hotel cafe. Then everyone came back to our room where Mark offered drinks. Had a lovely visit. Arranged to meet at 9 am where we would drive to the Blue Mountains. Watched some tv. Finally got to sleep after 11 pm. Woke up around 7. Had a light breakfast of cereal before showering and getting ready. Met up with Bryan, Donna & Maria. We all fit in our rental car. It took around 2 hours to drive to the Blue Mountains. Our first stop was Leura and the Three Sisters. We took the shorter route down to the walkway over to the first of the Three Sister rocks. The climb up was not easy. There were many tourist buses around. So, we had to wait along the trail for others to pass by before continuing down and up the narrow stairs. It was right around lunch time. We stopped at another trail with the view of some waterfalls. It was another tough climb back up. We drove thru the tiny town of Leura with many cafes but decided to stop at one off the beaten trail. The parking lot was pretty full. However, they had many empty tables inside. The waitress said they were pretty busy and it would take half an hour to get our order. We got seated at a large table and waited. They eventually took our order, informing us that they were short staffed today. Our food arrived shortly, thereafter. Then drove out to some more trails. Jamison Lookout was next. We followed the steps and had a great view at the Wentworth Falls Lookout. There were stairs in places. We saw some beautiful rock formations along the way. It was a challenge for me to climb back up. We got plenty of good exercise today. The drive back was at least 2 hours, with busier roads filled with commuter traffic. Our google maps gave us better road instructions today. We arrived back at our hotel around 4 pm. We plan to meet up at 6 pm for dinner. We will find another restaurant along the water. Thanks for you emails and messages. Today was pretty perfect weather for climbing mountains. The high was 22C and a bit cooler in the mountain altitudes. I wore my sweater as I was cool. The sun shone which helped in making the temperature more comfortable. We will move from this hotel tomorrow. Our plans are to drive back to Newport which is close to where our boat is moored in Elvina Bay off Pittwater. Our boat sale will be finalized by April 18th. All is well in Sydney!

We are both computer folks that were live aboard cruisers back in the 90s. We settled in Jacksonville Florida after escaping the great white north and cruising the Bahamas, T&C, DR and points south down to Trinidad. [...]
Extra: Charabia is a French slang word for nonsense or gibberish. It derives from Arabic "sharab" which means alcohol. When you drink (too much) alcohol, you start talking Charabia. The original owners named her and Mark liked the name so it stuck.
