Sea Princess Sea Day 5 - 05/18/19

23 May 2019 | Torres Strait
Helen
Woke up after 8. We had left open the curtains, but Mark closed them when he woke up at night. Eventually got up. Picked out our vitamins. Then got dressed and headed up to the Lido Deck 14 for breakfast. We each ordered an omelet. Plus a few more things to go with it. Walked on Deck 7 which is the walking track floor. Lots of walkers along our path which was surprising. Eventually gave up. Lots of windage on one side of the boat as the big winds were pushing us. Saw at least one sailboat close to an island. Lots of islands as we continued our sail north. Stopped at the photo shop to see our pictures from last night's formal. We ended up buying one as they did an impressive job on the pictures. We attended the Shopping Lecture in the Princess theater. They gave out lots of freebees and I managed to grab a small bag with Princess on it. They did some draws and we did not win anything. They did give us a coupon for a free pendant. Made a stop at Effy Jewelers to collect our free pendant from yesterday. Bought a couple of pendant sets and got a free nautical pendant as part of the deal. Very nice. Dropped them at our cabin. Lunch was in the dining room. We had to wait a bit to be seated. If we didn't share a table, it would take half an hour to be seated. At least one couple preferred to do that. Had lunch with two other families. One couple from just west of Brisbane. The other was two sisters, from NSW and Queensland. Enjoyed our talk while we waited for lunch. Mark and I had the chicken and veggie taco, or something like a taco. I headed to play Euchre while Mark attended a movie on James Cook, followed by a lecture by Donna the Astronomer. I ended up learning to play Kanasta with two other ladies. Not very good cards for me. Met Mark back at the cabin. Took another walk on Deck 12. Stopped by some Aussies who saw my Maui t-shirt. They were from Brisbane. They had taken the world cruise before. They were drinking their second bottle of wine. Then headed back to the room and showered. Then got dressed for dinner. I just wore my jeans while Mark put on his dress pants and a fancy shirt. Both of our dinner mates were already at the table by the time we got there. Had a nice dinner. Mark had mac and cheese, while I had the rib eye steak and added extra veggies. Lots of funny and entertaining stories were shared. Then headed back to the room. Decided to watch the movie, The Greatest Showman, on the screen out on the pool deck. Half way thru it started to rain lightly. We grabbed our towels and headed to cover and sat on lounges in that protected area. Then moved back to our seats thru the end of the movie. It was entertaining. After the movie, we walked up to the room as we had half an hour to kill before the show started. Tim Ellis was an Aussie Magician headlining tonight. Not that many people in the Princess theater, so we were able to get primo seats two away from the stage. Talked to the lady that sat next to us, from Tasmania. The show was very good. We walked up to the Lido deck and got a drink and some dessert. Then walked back to our cabin. Listened to a Rush YouTube. Also, watched some tv. One was a Bond movie. Didn't see much of it as it was getting late. Created the blog, which we will post when we get wifi. Headed to bed almost midnight. We are definitely staying up too late these day. Thanks for the message we received today. I did spend some time sending out a lot of Garmin messages. Was hoping to hear from everyone. It was warm out on the deck, especially when the sun was out. There were plenty of cloudy periods today. Got to see a lot of islands in the Great Barrier Reef.

About:
We are both computer folks that were live aboard cruisers back in the 90s. We settled in Jacksonville Florida after escaping the great white north and cruising the Bahamas, T&C, DR and points south down to Trinidad. [...]
Extra: Charabia is a French slang word for nonsense or gibberish. It derives from Arabic "sharab" which means alcohol. When you drink (too much) alcohol, you start talking Charabia. The original owners named her and Mark liked the name so it stuck.
