Dubai Day 2

05 June 2019 | Dubai
Helen
Woke up early but fell back asleep. Finally got up at 7:30. Decided to shower this morning. Got dressed and headed to the dining room. We sat at a table with three other couples. Two were from Australia and retired bus drivers, one couple we dined with before. The third couple from from NZ. Lots of funny stories and memories over breakfast. Mark and I had a light breakfast. Then returned to our cabin and packed a bag to take with us. We headed off the ship and across to the port terminal building. We found the security guy that was going to get a friend of his to take us to Abu Dahbi, but it was going to be a wait for him to arrive. Mark didn't want to wait, so we just took the next taxi. It cost us $80 for the 1 ½ hour drive to Abu Dahbi and Ferrari World. I was surprised that it was built up the entire way. I was expecting to see sand dunes, but didn't see any. There were some sections with very dry grounds and that was similar to the Australian outback. We did see a herd of camels along the way. Lots of big and beautifully & elegant buildings. The hiway included 5 lanes with 140 kph speed limit in places. By the way, they drive on the right side of the road, just like back home. It was around 11:30 when we arrived at Ferrari World. We bought our tickets and headed in. The first roller coaster we lined up for was delayed with some maintenance issues. Not a great start. We did experience most of the exhibits. Mark liked the simulator and ended up doing a back-to-back race. There were so many different rides, including one with 3-D glasses. We finished up with a ride on the biggest roller coaster in the world. I was actually surprised that Mark joined me as he's not a roller coaster fan. I figured out why they pinned us in so tightly in our seats, since we went up-side-down at one point. I think we were screaming for most of the ride. We felt like we got pretty bashed up from all the different positions in the ride. They had free wifi, but we couldn't seem to make any calls. We walked back to the spot where we were dropped off and hired a cab for the drive back. Although, we decided to see more of Dubai. They have an identical Atlantis hotel as the one in the Bahamas in the Palms area. We were dropped off there. Mark wanted to stop by the casino, but we found out pretty quickly that there are no casinos in Dubai. I think they are against the law here. We did walk across the street to the boardwalk along the water. We were looking for a sandy beach, but it was all rocky. There were several power boats in the water. We hired another cab to drive us back to the Sea Princess. Our cab driver pointed out that the rest of the Palms included high priced homes and all were gated. He also told us the high tempature today was 43 degrees Celsius, that is pretty hot! We could see the marina at the end of a very beautiful white sandy beach. Once back at the port, we walked thru the terminal building and then headed back to our cabin to drop off our bag. Then decided to have dinner on Deck 14, Lido. We discovered that someone was scooping out ice cream, so we had some with our dessert. We have only been able to get ice cream in the dining room. Once we finished our dinner, we headed to Deck 12 to see what tonight's Movie Under the Stars was. A lot of people must have still be in the city or on tours as it was not busy at all and we got two of the padded lounges as well as popcorn. The movie was called, Skyscraper. We have seen it before, but it was very action packed. After the movie ended, we headed back to our cabin. Watching the original Mary Poppins movie on our tv. I do believe we are both exhausted from our long drives and outings. Thanks to everyone for your emails and messages. Our ship will depart around 11 pm tonight. We should have a good view of the water from our balcony.
