London to Kincardine - 08/11/19

12 August 2019 | Kincardine, Ontario, Canada
Helen
Stayed up way too late last night. Didn't want to wake up early today. Finally got up around 8am. Enjoyed a lovely breakfast with everyone. Vicki made us her special recipe of waffles and they were delicious. Enjoyed our time together in London! Then packed up and said our good-byes as we left around 10:15. It was a short drive to Delaware, Ontario, to visit our good sailing friends, Ken & Jean. We enjoyed our many conversations, especially those comparing our sailing adventure to their circumnavigation. Thanks so much for the delicious lunch and your wonderful hospitality. We left around 2:30 pm and drove to Kincadine. The sun was very hot. I was wearing denim capris and my legs were almost burning hot. We stopped briefly at Grand Bend. I am not sure I ever visited this area before. We got to see a very touristy area right at edge of Lake Huron. We arrived at our dear friends, Phil & Angie just after 5 pm. I met Angie in Kitchener, where I worked for a couple of years. We figured out that it was around 30 years ago. Wow! It was most enjoyable catching up. We really enjoyed our dinner. Thanks so much for your lovely hospitality! We took a walk down to the lake where we found a small beach. There were people in the water on both sides of us. We had a front row view to the sunset over the water. Too many clouds at the horizon which obstructed our view of the setting sun. It was perfectly calm out there. We could see the Bruce Nuclear plant in the distance. We walked back and Phil started the fire pit. We indulged in some dessert and coffee. The air was much cooler and the fire was hot. Headed inside and I was surprised it was after 10 pm. Mark worked on finding us a hotel tomorrow night in the Toronto area, as we work our way in that direction. Looking forward to a week of get-togethers. Thanks for the many emails and messages. Enjoy your day!

About:
We are both computer folks that were live aboard cruisers back in the 90s. We settled in Jacksonville Florida after escaping the great white north and cruising the Bahamas, T&C, DR and points south down to Trinidad. [...]
Extra: Charabia is a French slang word for nonsense or gibberish. It derives from Arabic "sharab" which means alcohol. When you drink (too much) alcohol, you start talking Charabia. The original owners named her and Mark liked the name so it stuck.
