Goodyear Lunch - 08/16/19

16 August 2019 | Mississauga, Ontario, Canada
Helen
Slept thru until after 8 am. Got up and dressed. Had breakfast. Then Jacquie, Mark and I took a walk around the neighborhood. The sun was shining and warm. I really didn't need to wear a sweater. The temperature reached 25C today. I thought it was supposed to be cooler. We headed back and showered. Then got dressed for our planned lunch with our Goodyear friends. We arrived around 11:30. Glen and Jacquie did a wonderful job organizing this get together. Thanks so much to Glen, Jack, Jean, Vince, Margaret, Terry and Jacquie for attending our lovely lunch at Symposium. We had such a great time. Mark picked out some pictures from our sailing adventure and we had a captive audience as we both chatted about our some of our key stops. It was almost 3 pm when we left. Stopped at Longos for a few groceries. Enjoyed some down time. Mark was researching our route for tomorrow and Sunday. We have one last Canadian get together for lunch tomorrow. Helped Jacquie prep for dinner. It was turned out very delicious. We have dessert heating in the oven. Watching some of the Toronto Blue Jays game against Seattle. At least they have a commanding lead. It's really hard to believe that our time in Canada is coming to an end. We are planning to get our Florida License plate and then drive back to West Point, New York, for a Rice football game. Thanks for all your emails and messages. Love hearing from you.

PCYC Visit - 08/15/19

We enjoyed sleeping in until 8 today. Showered and got dressed. Then enjoyed a lovely breakfast. Mark was working on getting our Florida license tags, only to find that they needed at least 2 weeks to process our request. We don't have enough time before our 30 day temporary tag expires. So, we will be driving back to Florida on Saturday. Also, worked on getting us some US healthcare. I spent the rest of the morning running a load of laundry. Thankful to have clean clothes. By the time the dryer was done, it was time to head to the Port Credit Yacht Club for lunch with our friends, Joe & Pat. It was like stepping back in time to when we were members there. Lunch was delicious. Enjoyed walking the docks after lunch. We even remembered where our sailboats were moored. They had replaced the main docks and everything looked in such great shape. There were several flocks of Canadian Geese flying in the V-formation overhead. We were wondering if they were heading south for the winter. We toured the pool area to find several people in the pool. It was very overcast and looked like rain was heading our way. We made it to our cars before the rain started. Thanks, Joe & Pat for our special time together. Took a short ride out to the boat storage area. We got to see Tom & Charmaine's Lis Tigre sailboat, still on the hard. Headed back to Jacquie's home. Drove thru some heavy rain and traffic. We enjoyed some snacks with a glass of wine. Then headed to the restaurant, Piatto, for a delicious dinner. Watched some of the Cleveland - NY baseball game. Then watched the last half of the movie, The Green Mile. We were fading by 11 pm. Thanks for the many emails and messages. We plan to enjoy our last few days in Canada!

Woke up around 7 am. Headed to the shower. Got dressed and left Jacquie's before 8 am. The traffic on the QEW and Gardiner Expressway was bumper to bumper. Now, we know why we left Toronto! It took us a long time to get to the Bay Street exit. We followed it up to the old City Hall and Nathan's Philip Square. Mark found us an underground parking garage close to Eggspectation. We were late so we rushed to the restaurant only to find there was more than one in this area of Toronto. Tom & Anna were kind enough to head to our restaurant. We enjoyed a lovely visit and a very nice breakfast. Left the restaurant just after 11. Walked thru the restaurant into the building where we parked our car. Drove thru Toronto to the Don Valley Parkway. We caught up with a lot of traffic which stopped half way to the 401. Then west on the 401 to the Bayview Village mall. Yim & Howard were already at Oliver & Bonacini when we arrived. Kathy was a bit later as the subway had an issue and apparently stopped for quite a while. Enjoyed our lunch together. We are so very thankful for everyone coming to meet us. It's so great to re-connect with everyone. Headed back to Mississauga. Again, the traffic was horrible on the 401/403. Arrived back around 4 pm. Enjoyed meeting up with Fred, who used to work for Mark's dad at Goodyear in Toronto, many moons ago. He joined us and Jacquie for a delicious bbq dinner. Watched some of the movie, Geostorm, on tv before it got late. Yes, our days are passing by way too fast. We have our vehicle papers now. Mark will check, tomorrow, to see if we can register it in Florida, online, so we don't have to drive back to Jacksonville. Thanks for the emails and messages. Enjoy your day!

Enjoyed sleeping in. Got up and showered. Then headed down for the breakfast which was included with our stay. We did not eat much as we had lunch planned. Lots of traffic getting from Markham to Toronto. The 401 was jam packed. The sun was shining. Met our dear friend, Rose, for lunch. Mark got to pick the restaurant and he was really wanting to have lunch at a Swiss Chalet. Rose found one that was close to her home. We had a simply wonderful time catching up on the happenings over the past two years. We headed to Mississauga and drove thru High Park on route to the Gardener and QEW for the first time on this trip. There was a lot of traffic, so we got off on the collector lanes. Finally got to Hiway 10 and drove up to Square One. This mall was huge and we didn't stay too long. Decided to drive back down Hiway 10 to the Queensway Hospital. Went to visit Charmaine and was able to find her room in the rehab section. Tom was visiting her. It was so nice to catch up. By this time, we had plans for dinner too. Met our good friends, Drew & Barb for dinner at Milestones. Dinner was delicious. We had such a wonderful time. Wishing you a very happy early, 50th anniversary!! We finally arrived at Jacquie's just after 9 pm. Spent the next hour or two catching up. Our day has been full. Looking forward to all the rest of our get togethers this week. Thanks for all the emails and messages. Enjoy your day.

Kincardine to Markham - 08/12/19

Woke up a couple times overnight. We slept until around 8 am. Phil had already left for work. Angela was working from home. We had a nice light breakfast. Then decided to get some exercise. Walked out to the lake front street and walked in the opposite direction from yesterday's walk. When we walked down to the water's edge, the visibility out on Lake Huron was not very clear. There was a dark hue to the clouds above and it really looked like it could rain any time. We walked further up the street and it started raining lightly. We sheltered under some big trees, so we really didn't get wet at all. Plus the rain was short lived. We finished up our walk and headed back. We watched some tv news and packed up our bags. Phil returned home around 11 and by 11:30, we followed them to the Erie Bell restaurant. We had a beautiful view of Lake Huron from our outside patio table. We each ordered their fish and chips. The haddock was very tasty. Enjoyed our time together. We knew that they had to get back to work, so we took our leave. We drove by the waterfront and marina and departed Kincardine around 1:30. We had our car gps to follow, but also set Mark's phone with google maps as it had a more preferred route. We took Hiway 9 most of the way, thru some very small towns. Lots of farm lands with wheat and some other crops that I didn't recognize. We saw some horse farms and the odd cattle farm. The drive went well, despite some detours around construction areas. Thankfully, our timing was great as we didn't see any stop and go traffic. We arrived in Markham around 5 pm. We checked into the Hampton Hotel and had enough time to take a shower and change. Met some of my Canadian co-workers from Bell Sygma days. Thanks so much Rosanna, Louis and his wife, Hera, for joining us. We missed seeing several others. We did notice a down pour just after we arrived. Our dinner at the Chinese Palace was very good. Cannot believe that we talked for so long. It was around 9:30 when we left. Our hotel was close by. We checked out the gym and pool area of the hotel. We will have time to visit both in the morning before breakfast. We grabbed a coffee that included Mark's favorite French Vanilla creamer. I think he has missed that in his coffees around the world. Thanks for all the many emails and messages. We will head to Toronto tomorrow.

London to Kincardine - 08/11/19

Stayed up way too late last night. Didn't want to wake up early today. Finally got up around 8am. Enjoyed a lovely breakfast with everyone. Vicki made us her special recipe of waffles and they were delicious. Enjoyed our time together in London! Then packed up and said our good-byes as we left around 10:15. It was a short drive to Delaware, Ontario, to visit our good sailing friends, Ken & Jean. We enjoyed our many conversations, especially those comparing our sailing adventure to their circumnavigation. Thanks so much for the delicious lunch and your wonderful hospitality. We left around 2:30 pm and drove to Kincadine. The sun was very hot. I was wearing denim capris and my legs were almost burning hot. We stopped briefly at Grand Bend. I am not sure I ever visited this area before. We got to see a very touristy area right at edge of Lake Huron. We arrived at our dear friends, Phil & Angie just after 5 pm. I met Angie in Kitchener, where I worked for a couple of years. We figured out that it was around 30 years ago. Wow! It was most enjoyable catching up. We really enjoyed our dinner. Thanks so much for your lovely hospitality! We took a walk down to the lake where we found a small beach. There were people in the water on both sides of us. We had a front row view to the sunset over the water. Too many clouds at the horizon which obstructed our view of the setting sun. It was perfectly calm out there. We could see the Bruce Nuclear plant in the distance. We walked back and Phil started the fire pit. We indulged in some dessert and coffee. The air was much cooler and the fire was hot. Headed inside and I was surprised it was after 10 pm. Mark worked on finding us a hotel tomorrow night in the Toronto area, as we work our way in that direction. Looking forward to a week of get-togethers. Thanks for the many emails and messages. Enjoy your day!
