Beach Walking & Dinner @ QH - 08/24/19

We were up early. Found out our carpet measuring person hurt his back and couldn't make our early morning appointment. After breakfast, we decided to start our day with a walk on the beach. We drove to the end of Atlantic Blvd and parked on 1st Street at the corner of Atlantic Beach & Neptune Beach. We were happy to get a parking spot close to Ocean One. There were lots of people on the beach. The boardwalk was missing or had been removed. It was a sandy walk out the entrance and all the way to the water. We had a very nice walk towards Jacksonville Beach. We didn't make it all the way to the pier, though. There were lots of people in the water. The waves were sizable with many surfers waiting for their perfect wave. After being in Australia with some very big surf, these waves didn't seem to be very high. The sun was hot. We could see a huge amount of gigantic white cloud formations along the shoreline and over land. The sky was blue without clouds over the Atlantic ocean. Beautiful views! Did a little shopping. Then headed back for lunch. Not sure where the afternoon went. I did some laundry. Worked on getting organized for our drive on Monday. We drove over to Queens Harbour and met up with our good friends, the Silvers. Enjoyed a walk around the marina area. Lots of memories of when we kept our sailboats there. Enjoyed our time together. Dinner was excellent, as was the company. Avery's parents were in town and we got to share some of our cruising stories. I even got to play some scrabble with Levi, while Austin enjoyed playing with someone's small puppy dog. Both boys enjoyed flying a foam glider with Mark. Truly enjoyed our time together. Headed back. Watched some tv until we were both tired enough to call it a day. Thanks for your emails and messages.

On the Water Again - 08/23/19

Slept in some. Mark said he was awake some thru the night. It was good to get a little more sleep. We decided to not go for a walk as it was already too hot to walk outside. After breakfast, we took our Jeep to the washing area and gave her a bath. We were sweating by the time we were done. I actually got to drive the Jeep to a couple of stores as we had plans to join some friends for a boat ride. Cooked lunch. Mark's stomach was not feeling well, so he got to enjoy an afternoon nap. We showered and got ready to head out. Met up with Nancy and Guerry and walked over to the marina. The engine was already running and once the line were released, we headed out on the powerboat, Doo Dah Day. We really enjoyed being back on the water. The St. Johns river channel has been changed some right around the Intra Coastal Waterway. Nancy and I climbed up to the fly bridge and found a very nice cooler breeze. We turned around at Mayport and passed a couple of freighters on their way out the river. Headed back just as the sunset was painting beautiful colors in the sky and equally reflected on the water. Thanks, Guerry & Nancy for an incredible cruise! We will be visiting our house tomorrow morning, along with our realtor, so that we can get some measurements of the carpet we are replacing. Thanks to all for your emails, messages and phone calls. Enjoy the weekend!

Woke up around 7 today. Decided to get dressed and head out for a long walk. It was already hot and humid when we opened the door. The sun had risen and was shining brightly on us as we walked. We walked around the other side of the marina as far as we could go. Then circled back around by the pool. I would have jumped in, if I had worn my bathing suit. We were both sweating as we walked. Had a light breakfast. Then worked on more plans. Mark booked us a mover. Researched getting new carpet. Then we met our dear friend, Chiche, for a late lunch. Enjoyed our time together. Then headed back with our leftovers. Decided to check out the flooring shop for carpet. Picked out two different ones for our living room and master bedroom. We have to get the actual size of the rooms. Hopefully, we can get everything arranged prior to our moving day. We shopped at a couple stores. We were both in need of some new running shoes. It was hot and we were tired out by the time we got back. Our daytime high was 98 degrees. Add some humidity and it felt much hotter. We should have headed to the pool to cool off. Maybe tomorrow. We finalized a few more things on our to-do list. Then enjoyed leftovers for dinner tonight. Our days are going by too fast in Jacksonville. Thanks for the emails and messages. Enjoy your day!

Woke up around 8. Decided to take an early walk, before the humidity kicked in. Not sure we started early enough. We walked around the marina and it was pretty hot and sweaty. We did notice the 44 foot Fountaine Pajot sailboat in the marina. It is the same maker as our cat, but much bigger. We did a big circle around and headed back. Had breakfast and showered. Mark worked on the letter for our healthcare, which hopefully proves that when we arrived in the US. We had lunch plans, but just as we were due to meet up, it got postponed until tomorrow. Mark wanted to have lunch at Chick-fil-A. Then we stopped for a couple of things at the Walmart Food Store and then headed back. We walked to the next building to visit our good friend, Doug. Thanks, Doug, for a wonderful time together. We loved the view from the top floor! So beautiful! Thanks, also, for the many emails and messages that you sent us while we away. We truly appreciated all of them! Robert suggested that we should take Chris' car for a ride. Mark was impressed that it started right up. We headed to Jacksonville Beach. We took a lovely walk on the beach, just off the Marriott hotel. There was a nice breeze, which made our walking more comfortable. Our high today was over 90 degrees. There were a few swimmers just off the beach. The waves were pretty small. The view was so beautiful. Headed back to the condo. We stopped at the car washing area and washed the car before putting it back in the garage. Started planning out our days needed to head north. We will remain in Jacksonville a few more days. We also have a few more get-togethers arranged before we leave. Enjoyed some leftovers for dinner. Then started a load of laundry. Thanks for the emails and messages. Enjoy your day!

Jacksonville Visiting - 08/20/19

Slept until 8 am. Got up and dressed and joined Jim for a long walk around his neighborhood. It was much more humid this morning. We were all sweating by the time we walked back. Had breakfast and showered. Packed things up and loaded the car. Jim and Deb were flying to Vegas this afternoon. We decided to move over to Robert & Chris' condo on the ICW. They are currently in Connecticut. We took all our suitcases and bags in as we need to go thru everything. Mark enjoyed a short rest after our light lunch. Then we drove over to our street and visited with a couple of the neighbors. It was so good to see everyone. The one thing about traveling the world was missing all our friends and family.
We then drove to Queens Harbour to visit our good friends, the Silvers. Enjoyed a short visit there. Then stopped and picked up a few groceries on the way back to the condo. Cooked dinner. I haven't done that in a very long time. Then we enjoyed a relaxing evening. Not sure we saw any rain today, but we did see some very dark clouds this afternoon. We will be in Jacksonville for a few more days. Then our plan is to start driving back to NY state for the Army vs Rice football game on 8/30. Thanks for all the emails and messages. Very happy to be back in Jacksonville!

Auto Tag - 08/19/19

Woke up around 8. We both slept well. Then showered and dressed. Jim, Mark and I headed out for a walk. There was a good breeze to keep us from sweating this morning. Temperatures reached upper 80's today. Enjoyed breakfast before driving to the DMV to get our license tag for our new Jeep. Thankfully, Jim, made us an appointment, so we didn't wait very long at all. There were several others complaining about their long wait. I didn't think there were that many people waiting. We had an excellent person to work with. It took about half an hour to process our request. We also paid for the TR6 tag which was owing. John also noticed that Mark's license did not have the star beside the number which means that Mark will have to update it when it get back to Jax. We made a stop at Walmart for a few things. Then we met Jim & Deb at the Outback restaurant for lunch. I noticed some pictures on the wall that reminded me of our drive thru the Australian Outback. Lunch was very good.
Mark and Jim installed the new tag on the Jeep. Then we headed to our storage units in separate areas. Mark remembered the pass codes. He also took some Home Defense to spray inside both units. No sign of bugs, which was excellent. In-between, we took a short drive to our house. Everything looked great. There wasn't anyone around. It was bittersweet to see our home after being away for so long. Our renters will be moving out at the end of this month. The clouds were darkening in the sky and it looked like it would rain at any time. It started raining by the time we got back to Jim & Deb's street. We stopped at Publix and Mark was able to find his Digestive Advantage. Picked up a few groceries, plus an umbrella. Enjoyed some down time. Watched some tv, catching up on several Below Deck episodes. Helped Deb make some delicious pizzas for dinner. Wrapping up our first day back in Jacksonville. We will only be here for a few days, before driving back up to New York state. Thanks for your emails and messages. Enjoy your day!
