Visit to Port Dickson Town

02 October 2014
Quaint little town that appears to be quite a wealthy area. Many resorts and buildings empty or half completed that started in their boom times in the early 1990's and came to a halt with the asian crash in 1997. PD has a couple of refineries. It is now a popular holiday destination being only an hours drive from Kuala Lumpar.

The Hotel next to the Marina offers a free shuttle bus 5 times a day to PD which we took advantage of to have a look around and top up a few supplies at the supermarket and enjoy an early dinner. Had a delicious whole baked crispy fish, vegetables, prawn dish and rice.

Organising to catch the shuttle was a marathon in itself and possibly something that yachties tend to overlook. In the marina information brochure I noticed in small print that a free shuttle runs to PD 5 times a day. I went to reception and asked about the free shuttle to be told that it costs 30 MYR by teski. When I mentioned that the brochure advised of a free shuttle, I was told to go and see the marina office. I read out to the lady that it said" a free shuttle runs 5 times a day and one needs to register at hotel reception" - oh she said this is not hotel reception that is next door. I walked next door asked about shuttle times at concierge to be told there is one at 3pm returns 5.45pm, I said i'd like to book 3 people for that. I was then asked my room number to which I replied that I was from the marina. Oh the man said and thought for a minute, then went inside to the hotel reception and came back after several minutes, the security man started chatting to me and was apologetic it was taking so long. Concierge came back and had me write my details on his booking sheet.

2.45pm we fronted up for the bus, to be told it comes at 3pm which we nodded in agreement. 3.30pm concierge started looking sheepish, looking up the road, talking on the phone, going into reception and avoiding looking at us! Finally almost 4pm the shuttle turned up, not sure if it was a ring in or the usual as the van had the name of a spa on the side. Were were told the shuttle would come back at 6pm which we negotiated at 6.45 due to the delay in departure. All worth the wait to have a good look, around, top up the supplies and our stomachs!
