We met up with OHANA again after parting company in the southern Chesapeake Bay. They went to spend time with relatives. We headed north and spent time in Newport, RI. It was our first time on Block Island and definitely the most crowded week of the year. Thankfully those anchored (very closely!) around us were well behaved. Even better, the weather was settled the entire week. This meant no one dragged at anchor, our big fear. We enjoyed touring the island by bike and on foot. We also got in some beach time. After our long overnight trip from southern NJ, arrival in Newport was exciting. Newport Harbor on a Saturday afternoon is BUSY. When you are a little tired being surrounded by sailboats & power boats & ferry boats & mega yachts & tour boats all turning into the harbor together is nerve racking. We were quite happy to grab a mooring ball in Brenton Cove and then watch it all happen around us for nine days. We also took in a "backstairs & staff" mansion tour, the Cliff Walk, the Yachting Hall of Fame and a day trip to the Herreshoff Museum in Bristol, RI.

Greetings from New England. Please view our PHOTO GALLERY for many new pictures. We had a brief tour of the Chesapeake Bay on our way north. We decided to get moving because it was brutally hot and humid with very little wind. Not fun when you live "outside." We had a successful transit of the Delaware Bay, not easy to do with the tricky strong currents in that area. We had to start that day at 4am to go with the current. It was a long day but we got to sail on the bay and it was even NICE. Better than our trip south, but I won't bring that up. Above is a picture of KALAMAR NYKAL, "Delaware's Tall Ship", that we crossed paths with on the bay. Once we arrived in Cape May, NJ we had a big change of plans. We decided to cut our miles in half and go outside of NY and Long Island. We left the next morning for a 30 hour sail straight to Newport, RI. The weather man predicted calm seas and light winds. He was right as we motored or motorsailed the whole way. We arrived in Newport to cool temperatures. We were so happy to be cold!

Just a quick note to let you know that Greg, Evan and Grayson sailed the boat from the Bahamas to Virginia at the beginning of June. I hopped off the boat and flew to meet them. Robin and Kevin came aboard as crew during the four day passage. They were great additions, bringing their vast racing and fishing experience with them.
We are now working our way north through the Chesapeake Bay, Chesapeake & Delaware Canal, and up the New Jersey Coast. Then we turn inland again and head up the East River past NYC and into Long Island Sound. From there we will work our way through New England and back to New Hampshire. Yippee! We can't wait to get back home.

Hi, Sorry we havent been keeping up. Last we posted we were in St Lucia. We decided to go home via the Bahamas instead of Bermuda but that entailed about 700 miles of sailing west to get over here. We left from the Saints and overnighted to St Croix, then Vieques, Puerto Rico, Dominican Republic and Turks & Caicos before arriving in the Bahamas a few weeks ago. We pressed pretty hard, with 4 overnight sails, in order to get to Georgetown in the Exhumas in time for the Family Islands Regatta. It was worth it.
Georgetown is a cruiser hangout. 150 or so boats there when we arrived. Racing was fun to watch and the boys were grabbed as skippers for the final race on Saturday that required a kid at the helm. The local sailors knew that the cruiser kids were more experienced than most of the local kids so our kids were sought after. Boys had a kick and Evan's boat won the final race with him at the helm. Our plan is to move north to the Abacos over the next few days, then stage out of Marsh Harbor for the run from there to Norfolk, VA. After that we will cruise the Chesapeake enroute back to New Hampshire. We lose this connection every few minutes so I will try and send this off asap, then go snorkeling.
