Water Cay (Ragged Islands)

09 March 2016
As you have guessed by now, life on a sailboat is directly dictated by weather. So, we are staying put in Water Cay. As the wind lay off a bit (just under 20 knots), David could not resist any longer and insisted to go spearfishing around the heads protected on the lee shore. It was still very windy with white caps and, one thing I am not good at, is maneuvering this D….dinghy!!!! There was no way I was going in the water, so after arguing and bartering, I ended up with the task of driving the dinghy in the wind and the current. I know, it seems like I should be a pro at that by now, but guess what, I am absolutely terrible! My own fault, as I always choose the easy way, which is, either to have David or, Alec, who absolutely loves to run anybody, anywhere, anytime on the dinghy during our whole Pacific trip (anything to get away from boat schooling) so I never had (by choice) a lot of practice. I kept trying to keep the dinghy near David , not too close, as I was afraid to decapitate him at any moment, and swearing in the wind, I kept it going until David came back up with a beautiful hogfish. Ok, now, hasta la vista, we have dinner, we can go on our merry way for my nice walk I bartered for. By the second day, since the wind always kind of layoff a bit during late morning, I was still very apprehensive but pretty confident this time, I could stay around and come closer without putting David’s life at risk, believe me, he was looking over his shoulder each time he came up! We had another beautiful fish for dinner, it could have been a nice lobster but an eel decided to co- habit with this lobster and was looking pretty nasty, so David left them both alone.
