Released from the fog

This is what the Skye bridge looks like from the same place once the fog lifted. So we left and motored all the way to Armadale except for 15ins when the wind teased us into putting the sails up then promptly died again. Now anchored in Armadale Bay. Day on shore tomorrow to go to the Gardens the off to Tobermory the start of our route back to Troon for the winter.

Circumnavigation of Skye, 2

After 3 days hiding in Portree we escaped as the wind dropped (slightly) on the 10th to run downwind to the mainland and Shieldaig, 5h, winds up to 30 kts rarely but 25 kts a lot. We were going downwind with half the jib up at up to 7 kts. Next day to Poll Domhain (6h), a tiny anchorage for a night [...]

Circumnavigation of Skye, 1

Still struggling with no wifi and often no 4G signal. Since the last post we have almost completed a circumnavigation of skye and have had Steve on board as crew for 6 nights. From Kyleakin we popped across to Kyle of Lochalsh to pick up Steve then clockwise round Skye to Isle Ornsey (2h, anchorage), [...]

Back to Scotland

It's July 28th, we are in Ballycastle, NI and we have arranged to meet Steve for his re-arranged, covid ruined trip out with us, in Kyle of Lochalsh, Skye, on 3 August. This is about 160 miles so we need to get our skates on compared to the trundling along that we have been doing. 28th, Ballycastle [...]

Sightseeing

Four nights in Ballycastle, a very pretty little place with good transport links. One day to chill, one for sightseeing, and one to clean and restock the boat. We got the bus from Ballycastle to Carrick a rede where the rope bridge crosses a chasm. Photo shows us on it. It was built to allow salmon [...]

Survived!

Sorry I've been out of touch, no wifi anywhere and no 4G in some places. Limited data availability in the contract in NI.

This is why we love sailing.

Probably the best days sailing so far. We were going from Fishguard to Cardigan but the sailing was so great we stopped for lunch in Cardigan Bay and pushed on to New Quay.

Sailing in 8 to 18 kts of wind at speeds up to 8.6 kts in almost flat sea (wind off the land, no fetch). Brilliant.

Then here in New Quay the wnd has dropped to nothing so we will have a quiet night. Fish and chips for dinner, and a pint/glass of wine. Perfect.

Photo shows sunset over New Quay from the boat.
