Glad we are not in the Scillies!

Phew. Storm force 10 in the Scillies last night. Glad we're in Scotland.

Back in Largs

Hi again. Since my last post we have been from Kames to Loch Gair, Inveraray, East Loch Tarbert and back now in Largs. All places around Loch Fyne. Kames to Loch Gair was mostly a great sail downwind on the cruising chute. Loch Gair is a small loch only about a mile long and half a mile wide and [...]

Everything in a day.

Woke up to serious wind, first time for ages. The exit from.Rothesay Marina is only about 11/2 x the width of the boat and with a lot of wind we needed a big thunk about how to get her lined up. No way we could put the bow through the wind so we had to maneuver around to the nearest pontoon to the exit [...]

Back on the boat.

Funeral day went well, now back on the boat on Thursday. Friday we needed a lazy day so confined ourselves to a 1 hour motor in no wind to Millport on Gt Cumbrae. Two nights there with a trip on the island's only bus to get a look round. Missed a decent sailing wind Saturday afternoon but never mind. [...]

Nothing to report

Not much to say. We are in Leeds for Ann's Mum's funeral tomorrow. Motored from Troon to Largs on Saturday, a good call as trying to sail with my leg covered on plasters was probably not a good idea. It's healing well now. Back to the boat on Thursday.

Statistics for the trip

26 October 2019
Ann and Steve Crome
We left Ipswich on April 27th and arrived in Preston on 2nd October, that's just over 22 weeks. In between we visited 58 places and travelled 1608 miles in 327 hours. The engine hours for the trip were 221, which seems like we only sailed for 327-221 = 106 hours, but the engine hours include all the time spent manoeuvring in harbours and marinas, many hours motor sailing and several hours when we ran the engine to charge the batteries but were not actually moving. So a good proportion of the time spent making miles across the open sea were sailing. Highlights have to be the beautiful places we have visited, especially the Scilly Isles. Maybe a few more really excellent sailing days would have been good, we suffered from not enough wind (motor on) or too much wind (hide in harbour) on many occasions, too few days had just the right amount of wind.

We took so many pictures it's difficult to pick one to exemplify the trip. I've chosen sunset over Falmouth as one of so many fantastic sunsets, and a few dawns, we have seen.

We plan a few trips to Preston to check the boat and perform all the routine maintenance over the winter, We will spend many cold winter days perusing the charts and pilot books of Ireland ready for next year.
