Zero under the boat

We moved the boat from Killybegs to Sligo yesterday. Fabulous days sailing using first the cruising chute then the white sails after we turned and the wind came forward. 7 kts of boat speed from 8 kts of wind briefly. Finally a trundle up the river to Sligo. Early stages could have been sailed by [...]

Lough Swilly to Killybegs

After another several days with little to no connectivity we've arrived in Killybegs Marina and have great 4G (but no wifi or on land toilets!).

View of L Swilly

Found decent wifi so came on to upload an excellent photo of Lough Swilly from the hilltop fort, looking roughly north. In the far distance is the Atlantic. Almost dead centre of the photo is CG in L Swilly Marina.

We are still here!

Sorry about the silence, I've been hoping for a decent wifi connection somewhere but it nots going to happen so I'm using up my roaming 4G allowance.

Off we go again

We leave Sandy on Sunday (7th), having delayed our departure to watch the coronation, arriving Troon Monday. We plan to leave Troon Wednesday to take 2 or 3 days to get to Rathlin Island in Northern Ireland. From there, around 18 weeks to circumnavigate Ireland and get back to Troon, minus flying home [...]

Statistics for 2022 and what next.

Overall this year we were away 14 to 20 June and 1 July to 26 August, 64 days, around 9 weeks. We moved the boat on 41 of those days including 2 nights in the Crinan Canal. We travelled 943 miles in 204 hours, 103 on the motor and 101 under sail. We had company for 6 nights (thanks Steve, very pleased [...]

IoM to Northern Ireland.

Crossing planned from IoM to Ardglass in NI. We needed to go through the narrow channel between IoM and Calf of Man, a small Island at the southern tip of the main island. To do that we had to get the tides right. We could not get out of Douglas marina over the sill, down to the south of the island and through the sound with the right tides so we broke the journey in Port St Mary in the south Eastern end of the island overnight on a visitors buoy. Port St Mary to Ardglass, 35 miles in just over 6 hours, pretty good going. Very comfortable sail, mostly a beam reach, bits of motoring when the wind dropped. Two night in Ardglass to allow a bit of boat cleaning and maintenance. Pretty place but not a lot to do. No photos of Ardglass, not sure why, failed there. So photo to prove I am there with Ann, Douglas in the background.
