CTDs
14 June 2010 | oil spill Gulf of Mexico
Tina
2 CTDs have been done today and more are planned. The scientists are determining CTD stations to follow a feature that is present in the water profile.
This morning the odor isn't as prevalent but has picked up this afternoon. Today we are not seeing the thicker lines of oil that we were seeing yesterday. So far today I've only seen rusty color globs in the water and a light sheen in places. Today we are seeing what looks like sea cucumbers floating in the water. In the distance we can see smoke from oil burn off. There are fish in the area and they don't have any evidence of oil on them.
We have been granted 24 hour special permission to get in with the 5 mile perimeter of the well head. We will do CTDs within 1000 meters and surface surveying within 500 meters.
The image shows the well head at night.
