The R/V CAPE HATTERAS is owned by the National Science Foundation and operated under a renewable Charter Party Agreement by the Duke/UNC Oceanographic Consortium. Her homeport is at Duke University Marine Laboratory in Beaufort, North Carolina.

Any vessel which draws 8' or more is required by Mississippi law to use a pilot when coming into port.
We are heading out on our tenth cruise of the year and the R/V Oceanus will be joining us. We just finished our safety and abandon ship drill followed by a science meeting and finally tacos for lunch.
At approximately 2100 hours we will start doing CTD near the well head to see if we can locate any oil.
