Sushi

25 May 2006 | Port Douglas
Julie
Chris has been promising me a good sushi meal since we left New Zealand. We couldn't find any sushi bars in Bundaberg, but we did one better...

On our way from Great Keppell Island to Pearl Bay, we went through a particularly abundant fishing area off the coast of Port Douglas. We started the morning with three spotted mackerels and decided we had enough fish to last a while, so were thinking about pulling in the lines.

Just then we got a bite from something large and sure enough, it was a good sized blue fin tuna. He put up a bit of a fight but we got him on board and got two giant fillets that would feed us for days

I made what Chris and I both thought was the best sushi we've ever had - complete with wasabi and sticky rice. I'm not sure if it was the fact that we haven't eaten it for more than a year, or that it really was that good, but either way, it was heaven. We also made ceviche, poisson cru (Tahitian raw fish), fish tacos and grilled tuna.

Suffice to say, my sushi urge has been satisfied, for a while, at least.
