Indigo Bay

We spoke with a local here who told us about an anchorage just south of where we were that would be more protected from the swell and current, so we all moved down to Indigo Bay which is a nice large bay with plenty of deep water for several boats. We re-anchored and had a more comfortable night of sleep, even when it was howling 30 knots from the south.
There looked to be a beautiful resort ashore, so when the weather let up, we inflated the dinghy and went ashore. It turns out the entire site is under construction It was open for five years and has now been closed for seven months undergoing a $13 million upgrade. Apparently it is owned by a Saudi who fell in love with Africa, and specifically Mozambique, some years ago and decided to invest. The resort is very high-end with gorgeous materials and lush, manicured grounds. There are only 100 beds, so is pretty exclusive. They are adding on an area that will be open to the public with rock pools, a restaurant and bar. Unfortunately we are here just a month too early!
In any case, there is a beautiful white sand beach and more than ten miles of walking tracks on the island, so we will be able to take advantage of that while we are still here waiting for that weather window. We are all starting to think that maybe Christmas in Bazaruto isn't looking so bad!
**This anchorage offers good protection in anything from Southerly to Easterly winds. Following are the waypoints leading in to the anchorage from the channel. They need to be followed in order, as they run between a sand bar and the beach. We anchored at WP #2 because of our 9 ft. draft. 1. 21.43.107S, 35.25.801E 2. 21.42.946s, 35.25.920E 3. 21.42.708s, 35.26.136E 4. 21.42.589S, 35.26.146E 5. 21.42.354S, 35.26.200E
