Waiting for Weather in Durban
08 December 2006 | Point Yacht Club, Durban

Well, our weather window didn't last as long as we hoped, so we stopped in Durban. The sail was fine, despite having two knots of current against us almost the whole way. We had also heard that a container ship dropped 25 containers outside of Durban the previous day, so we had to keep an extra close watch. We didn't see any containers, but we did see a few whales which was nice.
We got a berth in the Point Yacht Club next to Sea Fever, who we haven't seen since Cairns and had a nice dinner on Pamina. Yesterday I got a tour of the city with Fred from Peri Peri (the local weather guru) and did some walking around the downtown area. In my opinion the city is not nearly as bad as people make it out to be. It's actually quite lively and energetic.
Last night was a braai (aka bbq) at the Yacht Club and it was fun to catch up with some people we haven't seen in a while.
Unfortunately the owner of our berth returned today so we had to go anchor at 6am, as the marina is completely full. We were hoping to leave this afternoon as the weather looked pretty benign, but when we ran the idea past Fred, his response was "I think that's a very bad idea." Needless to say, we're still here.
