Rounding Cape Recife

14 December 2006 | Port Elizabeth
Julie
We left Port Elizabeth at about 6am and just rounded Cape Recife, one of the many capes along the greater Cape of Good Hope. There is still a slight southwesterly but the sea is calm and we're making good headway.

As usual, we will go as far as this weather window will take us. They are expecting a strong southwesterly on late Sunday, but if we are as far as Cape Agulhas, it will be from behind and not a problem for us to continue on to Cape Town.

We enjoyed PE very much, although we didn't see much other than the Yacht Club and Spar Supermarket. The YC was extremely hospitable and welcoming to the foreign yachts. Someone in Durban had actually called ahead to let them know that a group of boats would be arriving and they had arranged space for us all prior to our arrival.

The facilities are nice, despite the reconstruction going on after a recent fire destroyed the club house. From the look of things it will be quite nice when it's complete.
