Boulders Beach

We did a spectacular drive along the southern coast, through Sea Point, Clifton Beach, Camp's Bay, Hout Bay and across to Simon's Town. The beaches are all stunning, and very similar to many of the beaches in Southern California, where we are from. We had lunch at a great cafe called The Meeting Place, which also sold great home decor.
From Simon's Town we walked a few km south to Boulders Beach which is famous for its penguins. We have seen penguins twice before on this trip (Galapagos and NZ) and these were the largest and looked most "penguin-like", for lack of better words. They are called "jackass" penguins because of the noise they make which is similar to a donkey. There is a breeding facility situated in the middle of a beautiful residential area and on a gorgeous beach. It's called Boulder's beach because of the huge boulders that are more than 500 million years old.
