Up the River in Jacare

02 March 2007 | Jacare
Julie
Our sail came back looking great and we headed north for the towns of Cabedelo and Jacare, just about 70 miles north. Our friend Ben from Gypsy Soul left his boat in Recife and came along for the ride.

We sailed overnight - had great wind and made it at about 7am. We had to kill some time before high tide to go up the river, so we did some fishing and got a good sized mackerel. Perhaps our luck is finally turning.

We went about 8 miles up the river to the small town of Jacare and anchored in front of the YC and several restaurants on the water.

At sunset on the weekends, the restaurants are quite spectacular. Each one has a band playing and when the sun is actually setting, musicians paddle around in wood boats to serenade the crowd. Most of the crowd seemed to disappear after the final act, but the music went on late into the night.
