Needing Fruit

Chris
Okay the fresh stuff is disappearing. Andrew's appetite for bananas is only rivaled by monkeys I suspect. Actually, I eat my share of bananas too and probably a little extra share on other things. Nonetheless, needing some fresh stuff we motored down to an anchorage behind another island off Isla Del Rey called Isla Cana which supposedly has a small village (with friendly people who have small farms around). The anchorage is very secure too.

We anchored waited for a rainstorm to pass and then headed to the village by dinghy. The village is very small, maybe 200 people, with no running water or electricity. Most have nice houses with pastel colored plaster walls and they appear to be farmers and fisherman. There were two small one room stores with things for sale. Business must be reasonably good for this village, as several of the small fishing boats had nice new outboard motors.

Two young boys greeted us on the beach and were eager to provide us with whatever they could. Since our head Spanish translator is on vacation in the US, I had to do my best which is not very good. We ended up with 30 limes, a bunch of bananas, and an Orange Crush bottle filled with some mysterious little berry liquor (we are very afraid of the latter). While not exactly the fresh stuff we had hoped, for we called it a success.
