Great Unexpected Guests

25 April 2010 | Belle Isle Marina

Great Fun

The coolest part of this lifestyle is getting to meet the folks you have been connected to through blogging. This past Friday we finally had the pleasure of meeting Mike & Barb of S/V Nelleke (pronounced Nella-ka) of Nova Scotia. We have been following each other's blog I think for close to 2 years now. They are braver than us and do off shore jumps. We knew they were on their way back north and it looked like we would miss them once again because of an off shore jump. We were delighted on Friday morning to get an email from them saying they were going to come into Belle Isle Marina and hook up with us. They arrived around 2:30 p.m. with a rising tide and still had to plough through some mud and needed some assistance walking to the dock. It was so nice to meet them, Peri and Al (the largest cat I have ever met). We had a quick beer aboard and left them for some clean up time. We reconvened on Close Knit for cocktails before heading to the grill for supper.
We were thrilled to learn they would stay a second night so plans were made for diner on Close Knit for Saturday evening. We had hamburgers with blue cheese, salads, and Barb provided a wonderful dessert. I always enjoy an opportunity to introduce guests to Joy Beazley's Heavenly Orgasms (a lovely little shooter concocted of Baileys, Amaretto and Butterscotch schnapps). Our guests and we (as shown above) appear "satisfied". The dogs did not partake; they just look satisfied all the time (we could take lessons from them).
Mike and Barb pulled away easily from the dock at the butt crack of dawn this morning on a high tide. We felt happy that we had the opportunity to meet them and hope to cross wakes again. We wish them fair winds and lots of water under their keel as they make their way back to Nova Scotia.
On another note I finished another good book "The Guernsey Literary Potato Peel Pie Society`` which I passed along to Barb to read. It was a very different format but a great read. It is raining today so I guess in due time we will find out if we were successful in patching up the leaks.
