NOT The Start We Wanted

Our New Years Day saw us back in KGH Emergency with a low grade fever and copious amounts of blood in Al’s catheter drainage bag. After consulting our Home Care Nurse she advised us to present to ER. Al was not in any discomfort. What was discovered was Al has a resistance to Ciprofloxacin, the drug prescribed on the 21st. They irrigated his bladder and sent us off to get a new antibiotic. We will also be getting a rather urgent Urology consult and scope within two weeks.
This morning Al is looking better and blood is still present but this is expected. I am still heading out tomorrow and if I am needed back here I will make it happen. My hope is to get south, work at warp speed and maybe return faster than I had planned without much penalty. I have had a gut feeling for some time that there has been underlying bladder issues percolating so I am glad to be getting more aggressive with Urology investigation. I poured out these concerns to the ER physician and he has acted accordingly.
We are still hopeful 2013 will turn out better, seriously folks, it just can't get worse.
