'tis grim up north!

Set off to Guernsey but oh my the sea wasn't kind so...
Carry on being thrown about for another 20 miles or divert to Jersey,
which put us the right side of the wind?
Choice easy...
Hello Jersey!!!
Weather gorgeous
Fish and chips and a quick tour of town
Then stock up boat
Ready for second attempt at getting to Guernsey!

Arrived Guernsey in dark,
Stayed outside Marina to get an early start,
Woke at 3.30am left at 4
21 hours later we sailed into Hazler Marina
- home!!
Now off to plan next adventure...

Worse 10 hours ever

Apart from the hour that the dolphins joined us
The journey here was horrible so...
Going to write about yesterday and Thursday instead.

Thursday:
Sailed into a brand new Marina at Roscoff,
So new
- it wasn't in our guide book for clueless day skippers,
In fact it wasn't quite finished!
Wandered into town,
Lovely old stone houses
- with medieval turrets
And gargoyles peering down on us
on the cobbled street below.
Found a pizzeria - sorted!!

Yesterday:
Sailed up a beautiful river
to a little place called Treguier,
Wandered ashore
More beautiful old houses
Tudor this time,
With aching beams and swollen walls
Almost touching each other
across the narrow streets they stood on.

Found quirky restaurant called The St Bernard
- complete with Swiss cookoo clock
And giant cow bell!
Food yum,
3 courses - all huge
15. 50 euros each
Rolled back to Marina and fell asleep.

Just sitting on the dock of the bay
Watching the tide roll away
-literally!
We messed up
-got the homeward time tide all wrong
So ... Have to chill all day in the sun
And wait till morning!

Eventful couple of days ..
Have stopped in on Audierne again
Then Camaret
Lovely sail for part of trip,
- lovely clear water, but overcast.

Had to motor to L'Aberwrac'h
- still no fairies in sight
However ....
dolphins joined us to dance to Phil Collins as we motored along
- Sweet
A whole family with a ikle one!

Invited for a drink with crew of Yorvic Star,
Fab 40 ft yacht
Fun evening
- think I managed to pick skipper Nigel's brain
without him noticing or minding too much.

After a thick misty morning
- glorious sunshine
So now...
I'm sitting on the dock of the bay
wasting time...
Feel free to join in the whistling!!!

'tis grim up north!

'Twas a glorious day when we set out,
On our 11 hour journey to La Foret
With hopes of a jolly time to be had by all
- but oh my...
That was not to be,
A quick reminder of how
even the Smith - Gibson dynamic duo
could not
and would not
control the wind and tide!
Lumpy, splashy roller coaster ride!!!
Glad to tie up and fall into our pits.

More sun, sea and sails!

22 August 2013 | Port Haliguen
Donna
Wind behaving,
Sun shining,
Sea calm
No jelly fish...
- just right to jump off the back of the boat.
Well Ricky dived !!!
Arrived at Port Haliguen about 5ish
Gave the bendy bikes a run out
Caught up with Circus You saw debs,
-no desert, just a camel at the beach!

Now sitting on deck deciding
"Mmm , where shall we go tomorrow?"

Pretending to be French

Donna
Left the little island tentatively to say the least.
It was like something out of a carry on film.
Ropes and boats in all directions
people holding onto each others boats
- or shoving them away!

Had an amazing sail to Pornichet
- just 36 miles away,
Lazed in sun,
Ate peanut butter and jam sandwiches.

Found friendly marina,
gorgeous long sandy beach,
Then when tide went out mussel beds appeared so ...
I picked 'em and Ricky cooked them!
