Spring Fever

08 April 2007
Louann
Last Monday, we were sitting at RFK Stadium in Washington, D.C., in shorts and t-shirts watching the opening game of the Washington Nationals. The temp was 80 degrees and definitely induced a bad case of spring fever. Alas, spring in the National Capital Area is a fickle beast. Yesterday we awoke to snow, and the temp didn't make it out of the 30s all day. We went down in the afternoon to check on the boat and admire the new graphics. S/V Coconuts is now official! We knew we wanted to change the name when we bought her last June, but waited until the haul-out this winter to have the new graphics done. They look fantastic! We are, of course, planning our denaming/renaming ceremonies to appease the gods! Other work done during this haul-out includes new bottom paint and the installation of refrigeration. The boatyard crew at our marina, Spring Cove in Solomons, MD, did a superb job all around. We couldn't be more pleased. We hope to be back in the water on Monday or Tuesday, so next weekend will be (fickle weather permitting) a chance to begin all the jobs associated with preparing for the fast-approaching sailing season. The Captain will be addressing the technical details in subsequent posts as he installs new batteries and a new alternator to meet the increased power needs of the new refrigeration system. We are going into a new slip at the marina that is larger and has a longer finger pier that should make life easier for Mika the Ship's Dog. She's a 10-month-old Golden Retriever who is still developing her sea legs. Once on board she loves sailing, but let's just say that getting her on and off the boat is always interesting. Here's hoping for an early start to the sailing season, wherever you are!
