Today, we really slugged it out. We have had a 44.5 Nautical mile day. That's big stuff with bridges to contend with and the speed of a Turtle. It was a really interesting day in that we built friends along the way. This was our first "convoy". That's about three frigates short of a flotilla. When we came out of the dock, we immediately ran into three sailboats...all, yes, waiting for the bridge. One started to drop an anchor. Interesting until we found out he lost his engine. later that day we heard he was getting a tow to Fort Pierce (43 miles...ouch). The other two boats, and Comocean, then proceeded to work our way up the bridges. A new learning...there are power in numbers. Starlight Express took the lead and we got on his tail. Bridge after bridge and then we were free to run. The Genoa's were opened and we were doing 7 plus knots.
We built a friendship listening to each other at the bridges. We met some very fun dolphins along the way (picture), and that nigh had a great little party on the back of Comocean where we met Joe and Dianne from Starlight, their Trawler friends Gerry and JoAnne and JoAnne's new dock friends from Hyannis, Fred and Debbie from Flyer. Lo and behold, Gerry, and ex-Marine, served and knew FAR to well my college roommate, Larry Cowell. By the way, the party lasted until 8:00!!!
