East River

After stops for the evening in Old Saybrook, Black Harbor (Southport) and City Island (a real gem of a community in the Bronx), we get a pay off of a trip down the East River.
So, leave at the Throgs Neck Bridge one hour and forty five minutes after high tide at the Battery. Watch for Logs. Call channel 14 and ask VTS if the East River is closed at the United Nations (It wasn't until the week of the 14th). Then enjoy the view. It's spectacular fun. The Freedom Tower shines, The Statue Of Liberty is at her best. The UN building is always recognizable as in the Brooklyn Bridge.
