50 miles to go before sunset!

It's hard to imagine when you are in 8000 feet of water that your biggest fear is not where your at...but where you are going. The entries onto the Bahama Banks are always treacherous and have been on my mind since Joanne and I decided to do the Bahamas one more time.
So, after 650 Nautical miles, we find ourselves fifty out. Last night, we calculated whether we could make the entry before sunset...and what it would take. Well, the horse could smell the hay, and we punched ourselves to 2500 rpm after adding 15 gallons of diesel. Running eight knots (positive current), everything looked great. Then nightfall, and two knots of current in our face, and we are all second guessing every decision. Toby, saws just poor it on. If we miss it, we have good weather Saturday morning to go in. We can, hove to (hang out at zero knots) and wait for morning if we need to.
We just dodged our first squall. Mark flattened the rig, Tom brought back the speed and moved thirty degrees to run with the wind, and we barely got wet. Boy we could have used some rain. We, and Comocean, are some kind of Salty Dawgs.
We are still trying to max speed as we expect the lowering tide off the bank to really slow us later today.
Beef Stew last night, cooked before departure, was pretty good...not as good as the Lasagna. I need more interested fishermen...nothing to report but sea weed. We actually had one glass of wine before dinner. If we do make the cut today, we will anchor on the boat and relax. Need to clear customs Saturday before we can get off the boat. If you see us going nowhere tonight on our tracker, the Rum has been broken out. Family members, don't worry...we are not aground. Toby
