We have found the weak link - and as it turns out so have many others - in the otherwise very reliable Volvo Penta D2-40 Diesel. Nothing happened when we we tried to start our new motor. Dead as a door nail. And, we were in a very beautiful but isolated spot with no cell or VHF coverage - Pt Baker, Alaska. After a day of tinkering we figured out that we were able to jump start the engine by bypassing the computer control box and running a wire directly to the starter from the battery. It worked! The bad news is that we did not have any instruments or means of starting or stopping except manually and had no exciter to drive the alternator. Thank goodness for our solar panels!

After our navigational adventure through Keku Strait/Rocky Pass - we headed to Pt Baker - the last floating saloon in Alaska. We met the wonderful proprietor and have a relaxing evening after an intense day of navigation through one of the longest narrowest, and shallowest rapids in North America.

After a long, cold but spectacular cruise through Tracy Arm Fjord dodging icebergs and bergie bits we reached Sawyer Glacier. The glacier area was jam packed with icebergs and ice bits so we high tailed it out after just a very brief moment as we did not want to be trapped between moving icebergs and an approaching super yacht. An amazing day's run and experience of a lifetime!

We will be keeping quite busy this winter preparing Confetti for our anticipated trip north to Haida Gwaii and Alaska this summer. Today we completed winding 600' of Bluesteel line onto our new Stern Tie Real courtesy of Fisheries Supply.
